With Halloween just around the corner my mind is in a constant flurry for costume ideas. I still haven’t figured out the perfect costume yet, but it will definitely be based off a YouTube character (I’m thinking BonQuiQui or Lorranie, both from MadTV). There are so many great ideas for college students on a budget. Here are my top 4 favorite Halloween costumes (thanks to some help from College Fashion), as well as some ideas to get in the Halloween mood:
1) Kate Gosselin. After the popularity of Jon and Kate Plus 8 throngs of people have commented on Kate’s unique choice of a hairstyle. They have even come out with an Eight is Too Much Wig for people to dress up as Kate this Halloween. I have a feeling that Jon and Kate will be one of the most popular choices for Halloween 2009. 2) Gossip Girl characters. Instead of dressing as a sexy cat or nurse, you could switch things up and dress up as a fabulous Upper East Sider, a la Blair Waldorf and Serena Van der Woodsen. Break out your preppiest outfit, cutest heels, and strut your stuff!
3) Spice Girls. I know most of us dressed up as the Spice Girls back in grade school, but since they are back on the radar it’s appropriate to dust off those costumes. Get your friends together and channel your inner 90’s superstar. Photo Credit: College Fashion
4) Holly Golightly. Audrey Hepburn played an iconic role in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and was the inspiration behind the Little Black Dress. The movie is just as popular today as it was when it first debuted, and millions of girls still look up to Audrey Hepburn as their fashion muse. So what better way to pay homage to your favorite actress than dress up as her for Halloween? To channel Holly all you need is a black dress, a strand of pearls, oversized black sunglasses, and a pair of white gloves. Don’t forget to look chic!
As far as decorating for Halloween it is so important to really get into it, and break out the fake spiders, cobwebs, and orange and black candles. In my apartment my roommates and I even have a mini black Christmas tree with Halloween-y ornaments. In addition, we have purple bat lights, hanging ghosts, and tons of black and purple tinsel.
Another one of my favorite things for Halloween is the candy! Between candy corn, black and orange M&M’s, and carmel apple sticks there are always ways to update your house with a Halloween twist.
